Second arrest made in Stevenston murder probe

A second man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man who died following a disturbance.

John Smith, 52, was found critically injured at Misk Knowes in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, on Saturday, 8 October.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died three days later.

Police said a 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A 26-year-old has previously appeared in court charged with murdering Mr Smith.

Allan Robertson, 26, was charged with murder when he appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 24 October.

He was also charged with attempted murder and assault to severe injury, the Crown Office said.

Robertson, of Glasgow, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
