Scottish Prisons: Visits to restart in Scotland’s prisons with limits in place

The Scottish Prison Service temporarily paused visitors to all prisons pending specific advice.

Prisons in Scotland will now be allowing visitors after a temporary ban due to the rise in coronavirus cases.

People may start visits again from Monday, September 28.

The Scottish Prison Service has announced that visitors will be allowed back as long as they are from only one household.

Only three people can visit in all establishments apart from HMP Barlinnie, where the number of visitors is two.

Children are allowed to visit, but each child is counted as one visitor, and face coverings must be worn at all times whilst within the prison.

Social distancing must also be observed at all times.

The Scottish Prison Service announced on September 24 that they would pause all visits until they received “definite health advice.”

These new arrangements do not affect virtual visits and more information can be found on their website.
