Rapist is jailed for seven years

A SEX attacker who subjected a woman to a sustained assault before raping her was jailed for seven years yesterday.

Douglas McCleary, 44, prevented the woman climbing out of a window to escape and threatened to kill her during the ordeal.

McCleary repeatedly punched and kicked his 37-year-old victim before pushing her down on a bed and raping her.

A judge told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: “The events she described were truly horrifying.”

Lord Tyre pointed out that McCleary had a previous record for violence, including a rape conviction from more than 20 years ago.
