As a result of the investigation, a number of items of jewellery have been recovered, and have not yet been returned to their owners.

Sergeant Robert Mackenzie said: “We appreciate some items might not have been reported as stolen to the police, with people instead thinking they’ve been lost or misplaced.

“All we require in the first instance is a description of the item of jewellery and we will progress from there.”

Anyone with any information relating to these items should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131-311 3131 and ask for Balerno police station.
