Police are advising transit van owners to securely lock their vehicles after seeing a spate of thefts across the Renfrewshire area.

Officers are unsure as to how the thieves are accessing the vans and stealing them but said an investigation has been launched.

Community Policing Inspector Tracy Harkins said: “If you are a ford Transit owner then it is advisable to ensure your vehicle is locked and secured and all valuables removed wherever possible.

“It is also beneficial to have additional safety measures in place to prevent the vehicle from being stolen. If your vehicle is not fitted with an immobiliser/Alarm then a good old fashioned Crook lock or wheel clamp would act as a deterrent.

“Such a device is not infallible, however, it could make the vehicle a less attractive option to an opportunist thief".
