Police hunt killer after ‘violent and brutal’ death of Edinburgh man

A MURDER inquiry has been launched in the capital after the “violent and brutal” death of a man in Leith.

The man, who is believed to be in his late 30s, was found in a flat yesterday by a neighbour.

It is believed he may have been there for up to two days.

Police said they are following a number of positive lines of inquiry.

They appealed for information from anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity around the property within the last week.

Detective Superintendent Allan Jones said; “While we have yet to formally identify the male found within the property, there is no doubt that he died a violent and brutal death.

“We are following a number of positive lines of inquiry, however we are particularly interested in any activity in or around the flat in Dickson Street within the last week.

“The property is a main door flat in a busy residential area, and I would appeal to anyone to come forward if they have seen comings or goings from the flat.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward to us immediately.”

Police have increased patrols in and around the Leith area to gather “vital community intelligence” and to reassure local residents.

They are carrying out forensice investigations at the property and a post mortem will take place.
