The incident happened around 1.30pm on Saturday 8th December in the Oakbank Road area when an unoccupied property was deliberately set alight.
Police are eager to speak to anyone who saw anything in the area at the time of the fire or afterwards. In particular, officers would like to speak to a boy who was seen near the building before the fire was started.
The boy is described as aged 12 to 13-years-old, of slim build, with dark hair, longer on the top and shaved at the sides. He was wearing dark clothing.
Detective Constable Grant Ross said: “This fire was deliberately started. Fortunately no one was injured but the fire has caused substantial damage to the building, including the roof structure, amounting to thousands of pounds.
“A boy was seen at the back of the property before the fire started and we would like to speak to him or anyone, such as dog walkers, who may be able to assist with our investigation to establish the full circumstance of what happened.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 1010, quoting incident 2030 of Saturday 8th December or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
