Paedophile is jailed after raping young boy and girl

A MAN who used a young girl and boy as his “sexual playthings” was jailed for 14 years yesterday.

Michael McNeill, 56, was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow of raping the girl 30 years ago when she was just three.

The abuse began in 1982 and continued until 1989 when she was ten.

He also raped her brother over a six-year period between 1981 and 1989. The abuse began when the boy was three.

Judge Lord Boyd told McNeill: “You have been found guilty of abusing these two young 
children. You regarded them as sexual playthings.

“They have had trouble with drugs and we will never know how much of that is down to your behaviour. You continue to insist you are innocent and you show no remorse.”

Former shipyard worker McNeill, of Greenock, was placed on the sex offenders’ register.

In evidence, McNeill’s victims, now aged 33 and 34, told how their lives had been 
destroyed by the abuse.

McNeill showed no emotion as he was led away to begin his sentence.
