Owner fuming after yobs tipped his three wheeled motor over in East Lothian street

A proud car owner has been left raging after a group of “out of control” teenagers flipped his prized three-wheeled motor onto its side.

The 25-year-old motorist was left stunned to find his three-wheeler Reliant Rialto lying on its side outside his home in Port Seton, East Lothian, on Monday nigh

The man, a Parcel Force employee, posted pictures of the upturned red vehicle on a community Facebook page asking for any information on the culprits.

He said: “Reliant Robin attacked - a group of kids hanging about the grass circles [and] apparently flipped my Reliant over.

“Never saw till 30 mins after - they must’ve been strong.

“Not much damage but hopefully the parents see this and can have a word with their child. Anyone know or saw anything please give me a message.”

The Rialto is an upgraded version of the Reliant Robin – made famous by Del Boy and Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. Made of fibreglass with a small engine and only a single front wheel, they are easy to overturn – as famously demonstrated by Jeremy Clarkson once in a Top Gear show.

Though derided by any, the three-wheelers are seen as iconic motors, offering drivers a cheap way to get on the roads, and the incident in Port Seton angered locals.

But some pals of its owner could not help but have some fun at his expense on social media.

Gemma Mccafferty said: “Aww this is an absolute joke. Hope you find out who the wee b******s are.”

Lynsey Dann posted: “That's awful - little b******s need a bloody good hiding. They know that there’s no repercussions for their actions. Poor wee Robin.”

Danny Nisbet said: “This is terrible. No respect for property. But I can’t stop laughing. Can imagine your face.”

And Tony Murray added: “Wouldn't have happened if you had four wheels.”

Speaking last night the owner confirmed he had contacted the police regarding the incident but added he held out little hope of catching the culprits as there is no CCTV in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called around 7.15pm on Monday, 15 February, 2021 following the report of vandalism to a car at a property in Inglis Avenue, Port Seton, East Lothian.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
