Ms Salau’s body was found along with 75-year-old Victoria Sims.

Talahassee Police said that they have arrested 49-year-old male Aaron Glee in connection with the murder. It is unclear if Glee has also been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of Ms Salau.

What did Oluwatoyin Salau say on her Twitter prior to her disappearance?

Ms Salau was last seen on June 6, on the same day she posted a thread of tweets detailing a sexual assault.

She tweeted: “Anyways I was molested in Tallahassee, Florida by a black man this morning at 5:30 on Richview and Park Ave. The man offered to give me a ride to find someplace to sleep and recollect my belongings from a church I refuged to a couple days back to escape unjust living conditions.

“He came disguised as a man of God and ended up picking me up from nearby Saxon Street. I entered his truck only because I carry anything to defend myself not even a phone (which is currently at the church) and I have poor vision. I trusted the holy spirit to keep me safe.”

She goes onto detail how the man “exposed himself” to her before taking his clothes off and molesting her.

She said: “All of my belongings my phone my clothes shoes are all assumably at the church where I've been trying to track since I sought spiritual guidance/ refuge. I will not be silent.

“Literally wearing this man's clothes right now DNA all over me because I couldn't locate his house the moment I called the police because I couldn't see.”

She then appeared to identify the man, tweeting: “Mid 40's lives in a gray painted duplex apartment style house drives a white clean Silverado Chevrolet truck.”

Black Lives Matter activism

Tributes have been paid to Salau, who was a vocal supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement.

A video of the 19-year-old calling for people to unite against police brutality at the funeral of Tony McDade, a black trans man, has been widely circulated.

"At the end of the day, I cannot take my f*****g skin color off," Salau proclaims in the clip. "Everywhere I f*****g go, I am profiled whether I like it or not... So guess what? I'm gonna die by it. I'm going to die by my f*****g skin. You cannot take my f*****g blackness away from me."

Salau’s friend Chynna Carney detailed her to CNN as a person with “the happiest soul”.

Carney said: "When she started protesting with us, that was the happiest I've ever seen her”.

Managing director of Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Kailee Scales paid tribute to Salau, tweeting: “Beautiful Young Queen, we should have honored you and protected you when you were still here because you deserved it. I hope we remember your sweet face the next time one of us cries for help.”
