Murder hunt launched as man dies after attack

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 56-year-old man in a street assault in Dundee.

The incident happened between the Cutty Sark public house and the DC Thomson offices in Kingsway East at shortly after 3pm on Saturday.

Police were called to the scene after a report of a man being attacked in the street.

The victim, who has not yet been named, was taken by ambulance to the city’s Ninewells Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Tayside Police said they were looking for three men who could have been involved in the incident.

The first man was described as being thin and wearing dark clothing.

The second man was said to have short light or reddish hair and was of average build. He was wearing a striped jumper and either grey or blue jeans.

The third man was described as having short dark hair and was wearing a dark jacket and trousers.

All three men are believed to be aged in their mid-twenties or early thirties.

Detective Inspector Kevin McMahon said yesterday: “The Kingsway would have been extremely busy with traffic at the time of this incident.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the disturbance to come forward with any information you may have.

“This is a murder inquiry. Someone out there knows who has done this. “

Det Insp McMahon added: “I would ask those people to think how they would feel if this was a member of their family, and to do the right thing and get in touch with us.”
