Missing persons appeal renewed for Janet McQueen

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information about a woman who has been missing for two weeks.

Janet McQueen, 58, was last seen by her neighbour leaving her home in Langside Road in the Govanhill area of Glasgow at around 9pm on Tuesday October 18.

She did not take her dog and left home without any money or her mobile phone.

At a press conference last week Ms McQueen’s sister said the family are “worried sick” about her and urged her to get in touch.

Chief Inspector Graeme McInarlin, Area Commander for Cathcart, urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “It’s now been two weeks since Janet was reported missing. We have carried out a number of appeals over that time, and whilst we’ve been encouraged by the response from the public, we’ve yet to confirm another sighting of Janet since she was seen by a neighbour at 9pm on the evening she went missing.

“A number of people have come forward to say that there may have been a few potential sightings of Janet, and these are being actively followed up.

“One of these is at Bennan Square, Govanhill on Thursday October 27, and we’ve been carrying out widened searches in and around that area, which include door to door enquiries. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to locate Janet.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal again to the local community of Govanhill and surrounding areas to study Janet’s picture - have you seen her? Do you have any information which might assist with our ongoing missing person enquiry? If so, please contact police on 101.”

At the press conference last week Ms McQueen’s sister Fiona Kilcoyne said: ‘’Please get in contact, let us know that you are safe. We love you and we miss you.’’

Ms Kilcoyne described her sister as a sociable person who was fairly well-known around Govanhill.

She said she had established patterns, including making her way most mornings to the Sir John Stirling Maxwell pub in Kilmarnock Road, Shawlands, for coffee and cake.

She said: ‘’Janet loves her dog and it is really concerning that she left the dog at home, alongside her mobile phone and her purse. We are worried sick not knowing where she is at this time.”

Ms McQueen is white, 5ft, of slim build with short black hair. When last seen, she was wearing glasses, a black anorak and dark trousers.

She is also known to visit the James Tassie pub and to collect prescriptions on a regular basis.
