Man arrested in Dundee road death inquiry

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged murder on a city street on Saturday.

A 56-year-old man died in hospital yesterday after an incident at the side of the eastbound carriageway of Kingsway East in Dundee, between the Cutty Sark pub and the DC Thomson offices.

Despite the arrest, the inquiry’s senior investigating officer said that two other men are still being sought in connection with the incident.

Tayside Police were called to the area following reports of a disturbance at about 2.45pm on Saturday involving four men on the verge of the carriageway.

The 56-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to the city’s Ninewells hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

Detective Inspector (DI) Kevin McMahon said: “The arrest is clearly a positive development, but I cannot emphasise strongly enough that there are two other men who we still need to trace in connection with this incident and we want the public’s help to find them.

“We are certain that there are people in the local community who know who is responsible for this incident. They need to come forward and share what they know with us.”

Police said the road was very busy during the incident, with reports of motorists slowing down to watch the incident.

DI McMahon said: “We need to speak to these people. If they watched as this incident unfolded, where are they now?

“If they haven’t spoken to us already, why not? They shouldn’t dismiss what they have seen or assume that someone else will speak to the police.

“They should get in touch with us now and tell us what they saw.”
