Main jailed for rape and abuse crimes spanning two decades

A 45-year-old man was jailed for at least six years today for a “horrifying catalogue” of rape and domestic abuse against four women over two decades.

William Lynn will also be monitored for the rest of his life, following the sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow.

He pled guilty to four charges involving the repeated rape and violent assault of four victims over 20 years from 1998, the Crown Office said.

Sineidin Corrins, deputy divisional procurator fiscal and head of the Glasgow Area Sexual Offences Unit, said: “William Lynn is guilty of a horrifying catalogue of domestic abuse and rape, occurring over two decades against four different partners.”

The investigation involved a specialist team of prosecutors from Glasgow and the national sexual crimes unit, as well as Strathclyde Police’s domestic abuse task force.

Ms Corrins said the crimes had a “significant affect” on the victims, adding: “I hope their bravery in seeking justice encourages any others who may be the victims of such abuse to come forward.

“Whether or not the crime happened some time ago, whether or not it happened behind closed doors, our specialists stand ready to investigate and bring domestic abusers and sexual offenders to justice.”
