Grisly search continues in Montrose murder investigation

It is understood that Police Scotland continues to search for body parts belonging to a Montrose woman found dead earlier this month.

The remains of 37-year-old Kim Mackenzie were discovered at an address in Montrose on November 4, sparking a major police investigation.

Nearby streets as well as the Broomfield Road recycling centre were sealed off by forensics teams as part of the investigation.

Steven Jackson, 39, of Market Street, Montrose, and Michelle Higgins, 28, of Lower Craigo Street, Montrose, appeared today (Tuesday) in private on petition at Forfar Sheriff Court.

They are alleged to have assaulted Miss Mackenzie with a hammer and knife between October 26 and November 4 at Jackson’s flat in Market Street.

It is understood that Miss Mackenzie’s body was dismembered and disposed of.

Jackson and Higgins made no plea during brief, separate, hearings where they faced a single charge of murder.

Solicitors Nick Markowski, for Jackson, and Nick Wheelan, for Higgins, represented the pair.

Both accused were judicially examined before being fully committed for trial.

Neither made any motion for bail and they were remanded in custody ahead of future court dates being set.
