A man has been jailed for five years after he admitted manufacturing improvised firearms known as "slam guns" in his garden shed.

Ricky Taylor's home in Royston, Glasgow, was searched as part of an intelligence-led operation on Valentine's Day.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) said he pleaded guilty to manufacturing slam-fire guns at the High Court in Glasgow on June 15 and was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday.

David Green, procurator fiscal for homicide and major crime, said: "The manufacturing of guns is an extremely serious offence.

"These types of improvised guns in particular can be dangerous to those trying to use them as well as those they're used against.

"Police and prosecutors will continue to work together to do everything in our power to keep firearms off the streets."
