A 34-year-old man was found with serious injuries to his face, and emergency services took him to hospital.
His injuries were not life threatening.
Detective Constable Rachel Hopkirk, of Glasgow CID, said: “Enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this assault.
“This would have been a busy area on a Sunday evening and we are appealing to anyone that may have information that could assist with our investigation.
“I would ask if you noticed anyone acting suspicious in the area around the time of the incident that you get in contact with officers.”
Police can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting incident number 2978 of Sunday, September 20.
