Former Rangers midfielder Joey Barton charged with assault by beating after woman suffers head injury

Former Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has been charged with assault by beating after a woman suffered a head injury.

The ex-Premier League footballer, who played for the Glasgow club in 2016, is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court in London on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police said the charge against the 38-year-old relates to an alleged incident at a property in Kew on June 2.

He was arrested on June 2, bailed pending further inquiries and has now been charged.

Barton will attend court on bail.
