Fan banned for sectarian song at Ibrox

A MAN has been banned from football matches for singing offensive and sectarian chants at a game between Rangers and Motherwell.

Connor Fulton, 21, from Galston, East Ayrshire, was given a four-month Football Banning Order.

He was heard singing a song containing offensive and sectarian lyrics at a Scottish Communities League Cup match at Ibrox in Glasgow, on 26 September last year.

Fulton pled guilty to a contravention of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act, at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday.

Speaking following yesterday’s hearing, Joe Stewart, football liaison prosecutor for the west of Scotland, said: “Football matches are places where genuine fans can get behind their teams, applaud, cheer and sing songs, all of which adds to the atmosphere and enjoyment.

“Religiously offensive singing deliberately meant to cause offence and upset is not acceptable either in law or to the majority of fans and it will not be 
tolerated.

“Football is not a platform for individuals seeking to spread their bigoted views and we will not stand by while they seek to do so.”
