Date set for Glasgow bin lorry crash inquiry

A DATE has been set for an inquiry into the Glasgow bin lorry crash in which six people died.

It was announced last month the driver of the vehicle which lost control in the city centre three days before Christmas would not face charges. A fatal accident inquiry into the causes of the tragedy was announced after the Crown Office said careful consideration of the police report found there was no evidence to support any prosecutions.

The inquiry will be held at Glasgow Sheriff Court on 22 July.

Erin McQuade, 18, and her grandparents, Jack Sweeney, 68, and his 69-year-old wife Lorraine, all from Dumbarton, died in the incident in the city’s Queen Street and George Square. Stephenie Tait, 29, and Jacqueline Morton, 51, both from Glasgow, and Gillian Ewing, 52, from Edinburgh, were also killed.
