Auctioneers puts up £10,000 reward

An auction house is offering a £10,000 reward for information that leads to the return of stolen jewels worth £430,000.

Around 300 individual pieces of jewellery were taken when thieves deactivated the alarm system at McTear’s Auctioneers in Govan, Glasgow, last week.

A member of staff discovered the thefts when he arrived at work on Tuesday and found the safe open.

The majority of the stolen collection is ladies’ jewellery, with necklaces, earrings, brooches, diamond and emerald rings taken. A Rolex watch is also among the stolen items.

Strathclyde Police said a suspect was seen on CCTV entering McTear’s, in Meiklewood Road, at about 7:15am on Tuesday.

Managing director Brian Clements said: “We want to do everything we can to recover the jewellery and return these pieces to their rightful owners.”
