Crash coma Scot, 17, opens her eyes on Christmas Day

A SCOTS schoolgirl who has been in a coma for two weeks in Bahrain finally opened her eyes for the first time on Christmas Day.

Olivia Dewar, 17, was run over in the village of Saar just as she was meant to return home for the holidays. She had been visiting friends from St Christopher's Senior School after moving to the country with her family earlier this year.

Her father Gordon was previously managing director of Edinburgh airport before he took up a new post at Bahrain Airport.

Olivia was hit by the car on 14 December and local reports said a middle-aged man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was arrested two hours after the incident.

Friends said Olivia is now showing some signs of improvements and has now managed to move her limbs and face and look around.

One friend said: "The change in her was amazing. She looked so much better than the first time I saw her.

"I can only attribute this to the spirit of Christmas. It is still a slow, slow process but I am sure she will make it. Olivia is a fighter and if anyone can come through what has happened it is her."
