AN Edinburgh couple convicted over their son’s drugs death in a hotel in Tenerife have been sentenced to six months in jail.

Corinna Reid, 35, and Robert Cormack, 42, were found guilty last week of 16-month-old Aiden’s manslaughter after a trial in the island’s capital, Santa Cruz. But they will not have to return to prison because of the time they served in custody before trial,

Aiden died on January 12, 2007 after ingesting methadone belonging to his father, a recovering heroin addict, at their holiday hotel in Playa de las Americas.

His death was initially blamed on bronchitis, but Reid, a cook, and her boyfriend, a part-time writer, were arrested and extradited to Spain after traces of methadone and diazepam were found in the child’s body.

Cormack insisted the youngster had accidentally drunk orange juice containing the drug. The pair were cleared of homicide.
