Couple deny murder by shooting man in head

A MAN and a woman yesterday denied murder by shooting their alleged victim in the head.

Paul Igoe or Hunter, 37, and Caroline Igoe, 32, are alleged to have assaulted Martyn Barclay, formerly of Hazelwood Grove, in Edinburgh, at his home street on 17 January last year and to have fired a handgun at him.

He died later that day in the Western General Hospital.

The pair also pleaded not guilty to firearms offences involving possession of a gun.

They further denied attempting to defeat the ends of justice between 17 January and 7 June last year. The charge includes a claim that they removed the gun used in the alleged murder from the crime scene.

It is also alleged that Paul Igoe or Hunter tried to conceal or dispose of the gun on 17 January and attempted to induce his father, Archibald Hunter, then resident in Morrison Crescent, Edinburgh, to hide the weapon.

A third accused, Kenneth Carruthers, 37, has denied possessing a gun in Walter Scott Avenue and Craigmillar Castle Park and elsewhere in Edinburgh on 17 January last year.
