Couple demands tram compensation

A COUPLE have demanded compensation after being shut out their Haymarket flat for two months after it was flooded by sewage water.

Margaret Paterson, 52, and partner Robert Munro, 59, said they had been told by Scottish Water workers that the flooding was due to a collapsed sewer which had been fractured by nearby tramworks.

Today they called on the project’s bosses to compensate them for tens of thousands of pounds’ worth of damage assessors have told them was done to their home.

But bosses at Edinburgh Trams and Scottish Water said an investigation into the burst pipe was still ongoing.

Ms Paterson said: “I am looking for someone to own up to this and I think it should be the tram people. They should own up and take responsibility. How long will we be out of the house for?”
