Councillors reject Morningside house plans

PLANS for a new house in Morningside have been rejected.

Planning officials had recommended proposals for a new house and garage at 226 Braid Road should be given the go-ahead. But councillors on the city's development management committee refused the application, amid concerns that it will overshadow the play area of a neighbouring nursery "to an unacceptable degree", and that windows on the proposed house would overlook it.

It was also felt that a residential use for the site in such close proximity to the nursery could attract noise complaints in future.

The decision was expected to be ratified by the members of the committee at a meeting set to take place in the City Chambers today.
