Councillors cleared by probe

FOUR councillors have been cleared by the Standards Commission following a probe into their actions.

The North Edinburgh Trust reported all members of the Forth council ward after accusing them of "inaccuracies" in a joint letter sent to trust officials.

But the Public Standards Commissioner for Scotland has now confirmed it has cleared Steve Cardownie, Cammy Day, Elaine Morris and Alan Jackson of any wrongdoing, meaning the issue will not be passed on to the Standards Commission to investigate.

A spokeswoman for the office of the chief investigating officer said: "The PSC decided that the matters raised did not amount to a breach of the (councillors'] code of conduct and, therefore, it would not serve any useful purpose to investigate this complaint further."
