Council unveils Bruce statue

A SCULPTURE of one of Scotland's best-known heroes has been unveiled during a ceremony in Aberdeen.

The statue of King Robert the Bruce was placed outside Marischal College in Aberdeen yesterday. Direct descendants Lord Bruce and Master Benedict Bruce were accompanied by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Peter Stephen, as the plinth was unveiled by Kevin Stewart, deputy leader of Aberdeen City Council.

Sculptor Alan Beattie Herriot was commissioned by the council to create the 120,000 statue.

Lord Bruce carried the Sword of Bruce while Master Bruce carried the Banner of the Chief of the Bruce family.
