Council to net help with speed trials

Residents and businesses in Midlothian are being asked to help create a map of broadband coverage in the county.

Midlothian Council has launched a five-minute online survey asking people to test their broadband speed which, combined with the postcodes supplied, will be used to identify problem areas.

The information gathered will help to develop a Midlothian broadband plan and will be used to identify priority areas for potential investment through the Scottish Government’s Scotland’s Digital Future initiative.

Councillor Jim Bryant, cabinet member for economic development, said: “We need to know where the priority areas are in Midlothian where there’s currently a low-speed broadband service.

“I know from my own experience how frustrating an unreliable internet connection can be when it comes to running a business.”
