Council hailed for its peak performance

Midlothian Council has been shortlisted as a potential gold medal winner in the 2011 local government Excellence Awards.

The council achieved a silver award in the “achieving better outcomes” category for the innovative Peak Performance Academies project at Newbattle Community High School.

The project at Newbattle is one of just three from across Scotland to be shortlisted for the prestigious award.

Newbattle Community High School is working with its pupils to develop excellence through the arts and sports, encouraging pupil involvement while enhancing pupil leadership skills.

Councillor Peter Boyes, cabinet member for education at Midlothian Council, said: “I would like to congratulate the pupils, parents and staff at Newbattle Community High School on their impressive achievement.”
