Council and unions stuck over pay talks

COUNCIL leaders are to continue discussions with trade unions over its pay shake-up - but have admitted they may not be able to give unions what they want.

Discussions have already been taking place regarding "transitional pay arrangements" that help employees who experience a reduction in pay because of a review or redeployment to a lower pay level.

Council officials and Unison representatives met last month but no agreement was reached.

David Jack, acting director of corporate services at the city council, said: "There is a wide disparity in the aspirations of each side.

"Given these differences and financial constraints on the council, it is possibile an agreement may not be secured."
