Cop warning on break-ins

POLICE have warned householders in East Lothian to be on their guard following a break-in to a home.

The attack took place between 10.30pm on Hogmanay and 1.30am on New Year’s Day in South Hamilton Road, North Berwick. The owners were at a party, and returned to find their property had been entered and searched – although no items were taken.

In recent weeks, police have had reports in North Berwick and surrounding areas of people spotted in garden areas attempting to open sheds, garages and house doors.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “Always ensure your doors and windows are locked securely.”
