Contract woe for drug case footballer

A LAWYER has told a court how footballer Garry O’Connor wants to resolve claims that police caught him with drugs – because the allegations are causing him “contractual difficulties”.

Solicitor Jonathan Campbell told Edinburgh Sheriff Court the Hibs ace wants a resolution to charges which allege he resisted police arrest and was caught in possession of cocaine.

Yesterday Mr Campbell told Sheriff Derrick McIntyre that O’Connor, 28, wasn’t ready to go to trial because defence QC Paul McBride was spending the day acting in a High Court case. The brief asked for the trial to be adjourned.

O’Connor, of North Berwick, East Lothian, has pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing cocaine and resisting police arrest in Hope Street Lane, Edinburgh, on May 14, 2011.

Sheriff McIntyre adjourned the trial until May 13.
