Consultants' cuts warning

QUALITY across NHS Lothian will be hit if senior doctors are lost as part of financial cutbacks, a report has found.

The British Medical Association in Edinburgh said consultants were key to devising ways to save time and money in a super-efficient health board.

Dr Lewis Morrison, chairman of the BMA's Scottish consultants committee, said: "When consultants have time to reflect on services and improve them, they frequently save the taxpayer significant sums."
