Company chief’s pledge on Occupy camp eviction

The company that manages the site of the Occupy Edinburgh camp has promised to “move quickly” in its planned eviction of protesters from St Andrew Square.

Andy Neal, chief executive of Essential Edinburgh, told The Scotsman that a meeting between the company and Occupy Edinburgh on Tuesday night had failed to change his mind.

Mr Neal said: “Although we are happy to see their proposals by the end of the week, we continue to move quickly in drawing up plans with our partners to move forward with the eviction process.

“[The protesters] have gone back to their group to try to plan changes to the camp that will make it acceptable to us for them to stay.

“I reiterated the difficulty with this as the gardens were not designed for living in.”

A spokesman for Occupy Edinburgh camp said: “Members look forward to meeting with Mr Neal again this Friday.”
