Community order for woman who attacked police officer

A WOMAN who is six weeks pregnant was has been ordered to go into labour – as she was sentenced by a sheriff to do 80 hours of unpaid work.

Jennifer Powch was handed the sentence under a community payback order.

Powch, 20, must complete the work within six months – finishing just before she expects to give birth.

Before passing sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court, Sheriff Douglas Kinloch checked with a court social worker that the accused would not be expected to do hard labour.

Powch, from Bathgate, West Lothian, appeared for sentence after earlier admitting two counts of resisting arrest and one of police assault.

The court was told that she gave Pc Elana Duff a bloody nose by kicking her on the head in the cells at Livingston Police Station.

Sheriff Kinloch put Powch under supervision for a year with a special condition that she get alcohol counselling.
