Community News: Top detective fiction trio at book store

Three crime writers will visit Waterstone's West End store on February 3.

Lin Anderson, the creator of forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod, will be joined by writer Karen Campbell, and Aline Templeton, author of the DI Marjory Fleming novels.

They will take part in a celebration of Scottish crime writing in conversation with Roanna Brannigan. Entry to the hour-long event, which begins at 6.30pm, costs 2 redeemable against a book purchase on the night. Call 0131- 226 2666.

Psoriasis sufferers speak out

A LOBBY group on skin disease has held a dinner in the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of a painful condition.

Edinburgh-based Psalv, which campaigns for investment, research and the profile of psoriasis, spoke to MSPs about the challenges faced by sufferers.

Eight politicians attended the event along with experts from universities across Scotland. It is thought 20,000 people in the Lothians are affected by the disease.

Ringing like the clappers

THE sound of Christmas bells will ring out at the The National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street on Sunday.

The Parish of Dunkeld handbell ringers will give free performances at 12.45pm, 1.45pm and 2.45pm.

The performance is one of the museum's seasonal events.

Santa boats all tied up

THIS weekend's Santa boat trips on the Union Canal have been cancelled due to the weather.

The Bridge 19-40 Canal Society made the decision to cancel the trips, which were set to take place from Broxburn on Sunday, in view of the bitter weather which is forecast for the weekend.

Havana good time at Royal Highland Centre

A CHRISTMAS party night with a Latin twist is take place at the Royal Highland Centre.
