Community News: Tayburn nets lucrative STV report deal

A BRANDING firm based in the Capital has secured a lucrative contract with media firm STV.

Tayburn beat off two other companies to secure the contract to create the TV company's annual report, which will be published in March 2011.

Director Steven Mitchell said: "This is an important time for STV and the client team responded well to our thoughts on content and process. We're really excited to be working with a high-profile media sector client."

Aquarium to reel in angler for discussion

STAFF at Deep Sea World are extending an invitation to the angler who caught a 1.5 metre-long specimen of Africa's most ferocious fish for discussions about his experience.

They hope that Jeremy Wade will pay a visit to the North Queensferry aquarium to talk about how he dealt with the 45kg predator.

The 52-year-old recently caught "Africa's answer to the South American piranha" in the Congo River.

THE world's biggest game of pass the parcel could come to Edinburgh.

Woolworths.co.uk is seeking locations for the event, which will be adjudicated by a Guinness world record judge.

Residents have until November 15 to nominate the city for a visit from Woolies' snowmen and a giant parcel.

A LECTURE on how the pyramids of Egypt shaped Scottish astronomy is to be held at the National Museum of Scotland.

In Between Edinburgh and Egypt, Professor Simon Schaffer will explore the career of renowned Victorian Edinburgh scientist Charles Piazzi Smyth, on Thursday at 6pm.

AN antique and collectors' fair is being held in the Capital tomorrow. The popular event, organised by Scotfairs, is at Meadowbank Stadium from 10am to 4pm.

There will be more than 160 stands. Admission is 1 for adults and there is free parking.

Modern studies teachers look to the future

Modern studies teachers from across Scotland were today discussing future challenges at a conference in the Scottish Parliament.

Four pupils who gained 100 per cent marks in their modern studies Highers, including Caitlin Fitzgerald of George Watson's College, were also being presented with certificates.

Deputy Presiding Officer Trish Godman said: "Modern studies teachers play a crucial role in encouraging pupils to engage with the political process."
