Community News: Shoppers put points across to Primark

A WEBSITE set up to gather views about budget retailer Primark's plans for a flagship Edinburgh store has attracted more than 10,000 members.

The Have Your Say website is due to be closed this week after the firm secured consent for the development, with work already under way and the new store due to open at the end of next year.

In an e-mail to members of the site, the company said: "We're delighted that more than 10,000 of you joined the site to contribute to the discussion."

Pupils to cut the ribbon at store opening

LOCAL pupils will open the new 600,000 Co-operative store in East Craigs at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.

The children from East Craigs Primary will be presented with a donation of 500 for school funds by store manager Sandra Todd.

She said: "It is appropriate we involve the community in our special events and we are delighted our local school is playing a central role in the launch."

Radio presenter proves a big hit with award

A HOSPITAL radio presenter who runs a soul music show has been given a broadcasting award.

Shelley Nobile, who has been a voluntary member of NHS Lothian's Radio Grapevine, was given the gold award for best female presenter at the Hospital Broadcasting Association's national awards.

Chairman Grant McNaughton said: "Radio Grapevine provides entertainment and brings together patients, family, friends and staff."

Clamping crackdown delayed

COUNCIL bosses have postponed a new clamping regime in the Capital until the new year due to the weather.

Fine-dodging drivers who repeatedly fail to pay parking tickets are set to be clamped and hit with a 70 bill. The initiative has been put off until January.

Jewellery site adds sparkle

City-based e-commerce website Jewellery Bird has launched in time for Christmas.

The website, www.jewellerybird.co.uk, sells sterling silver jewellery for women, including earrings, necklaces, bracelets and cuffs, with designs inspired by nature.

All pieces are handmade by UK silversmiths.
