Community News: Food writer serves up talk on climate

Award-winning food writer Alex Renton will give a talk at the Phoenix Club in Harrison Gardens on Monday. He will talk about food and climate change, having just returned from a fact-finding trip to India with Oxfam.

The evening will also include a talk by Denise Walton on her "own-a-Tamworth" scheme offering the chance to own an organic pig on her farm in Berwickshire. The night begins at 7.30pm.

Experts frame criminals' artwork for debate

A FREE discussion about artwork created by prisoners across Scotland is to be held in Edinburgh.

Mirrors: Beyond Prison will see Robin Baillie and Richie Cumming from the National Galleries of Scotland Outreach Team review artwork produced by convicts in five Scottish prisons. The work was created as part of the Inspiring Change project, which aims to evaluate the positive impact of the arts in prisons.

The event is at the National Gallery Complex on, November 23, at 12.45pm.

Business roadshow rolls up

A SMALL business roadshow is set to be held at Edinburgh Airport.

The event, which takes place on December 8, is part of Symantec's UK and Ireland Small Business Roadshow, which is taking place in six cities across the UK and Ireland in November and December.

City hosts eco school summit

Delegates from 46 countries across the world are in Edinburgh for an international conference on eco schools.

The International Eco-Schools Operators' Meeting will also visit Cowgate Under-5s Centre, Hermitage Park Primary School, Currie Community High School, and Kaimes School.

Brand new look for bank

A FORMER Alliance and Leicester outlet on Leith Walk is being renamed Santander this week after the banking giant acquired the firm in 2008.

By the end of November all 300 Alliance and Leicester banks will be rebranded under the Santander name and brand image.

RUGBY fans will have a chance to meet members of the Scotland squad tomorrow at an event in Castle Street.

Ahead of the match against South Africa at Murrayfield on Saturday, players from the Springboks team and four players from the Scottish national team will take part in the special fan event, organised by clothing firm Canterbury.

The team members will be available for signings, photos and meeting the public from 12 noon until 6pm.
