Community News: Ex-sandwich shop turned into tea room

A FORMER sandwich shop on Dundas Street is set to be transformed into a tea room.

Dolce E Solato was formerly owned by award-winning city chef Rosario Sartore, whose restaurant and cafe business folded earlier this year.

Mr Sartore remains head chef at newly rebranded Broughton restaurant Locanda de Gusti, which is located on East London Street.

His food at the restaurant continues to bring in awards, including a recent AA Rosette.

Mental illness charity decides to change name

AN Edinburgh charity supporting people with mental illness has changed its name.

The National Schizophrenia Fellowship has been rebranded as Support in Mind Scotland. The organisation opted for the name-change because it didn't want to exclude people with other psychological conditions.

Chief executive Mary Weir said: "Changing our name does not mean we will change what we do. Our name has served us well in the past but no longer reflects the range of services that we provide."

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is to be screened in the Capital with live music from organist David Briggs.

The film will be projected on to a large screen at the front of Loretto School Chapel on Thursday, Novemeber 18 at 7.30pm. Call 0131-653 4220 for tickets.

Schoolgirl to organise sale

A CHARITY bring and buy sale has been organised by a schoolgirl to raise funds for Children in Need.

Royal High pupil Cara Anderson, 13, has arranged for the event to take place on Saturday, November 13 at the Scout hall on Quality Street Lane, Davidson's Mains from 12-2pm.

Cameo gets in the picture for screening

THE Cameo Cinema is one of four UK picturehouses screening a preview of David Michod's debut film Animal Kingdom later this month

The thriller will be screened simultaneously across the four cinemas on Thursday, November 23.

The movie is being screen a full two months before it goes on general release in spring 2011. Tickets must be bought before November 16.

Veterans hold own service

VETERANS from Erskine Edinburgh Home and the Personal Recovery Centre will mark Remebrance Day with their own memorial service on Thursday.

Personnel Recovery Centres provide assistance to injured soldiers.

The ceremony will begin at 10.20am.
