Community News: Deli set to be sandwiched into vacancy

AN EMPTY shop next to a New Town bar is set to be turned into a delicatessen.

Pub operator Caledonian Heritable, which owns Clarks bar at 142 Dundas Street and a vacant restaurant at number 146, has submitted plans to create a delicatessen between the two in a former off-licence shop.

The plans would not impact on the visual appearance of the buildings from the street.

Council officials have recommended that they get the go-ahead despite them contradicting planning policy.

Top artist's huge display opens in city

A NEW exhibition by internationally-renowned artist Rosemarie Trockel is to open in Edinburgh.

Rosemarie Trockel: Drawings, Collages and Book Drafts will be on display at the Talbot Rice Gallery, and is the largest display of works on paper to date by the artist.

Due to the scale of the exhibition, it will be hung in all rooms of the gallery when it opens on January 29.

Another pipe dream comes true for Louise

THE city's VIP piper has been nominated for a prize recognising great musical performers.

Louise Marshall Millington, who is well known for various projects in the Capital, has been shortlisted for the Yell Online Small Company Advert awards. The Leith piper is best known in Edinburgh for her appearances at the annual Moonwalk fundraiser, and piping both Hearts and Hibs into Edinburgh following cup triumphs.

Writers keep it short at pub

National Short Story Day is being celebrated at The Canon's Gait pub this evening with writers James Robertson, Alan Spence and Rodge Glass reading short stories.

The City of Literature Salon event begins at 6pm at the pub on Canongate.

'Scottish harp' in tune for gig

A FREE concert featuring the "Scottish Harp" is to be held at the national gallery of Scotland.

Jennifer Port will perform a number of Scottish tunes on the clarsach, including music from the time of the Uprising, including The Skye Boat Song.

The free concert will be held on January 6.

Burns Night briefs on sale

TICKETS have been made available for a popular Burns Night celebration raising money for vulnerable children.

The event at the Balmoral takes place on January 22 and generates funds for Radio Forth's Cash for Kids appeal.
