Community groups share pot of gold

ALMOST 20 community initiatives have received a funding boost from charitable organisation ARISE West Lothian in the past year.

ARISE – the Alliance to Reward Initiatives and Social Enterprise – gives vital assistance to community activities that benefit the local area. Established in 2010, the initiative is backed by Land Securities, owners of The Centre, Livingston, which provides the funding pot given out to worthy groups in the area.

The committee has just finished allocating grants to local groups for the financial year 2011/12, bringing the total number of organisations to benefit from funding to 19.

The groups will put the funding towards a variety of items.

The Centre director James Bailey, who sits on the board of ARISE, said: “The aim is to provide funding which will improve the quality of life for people living in West Lothian.”
