Community centre work finds builder

A CONTRACTOR has been appointed for the rebuilding of the Royston Wardieburn Community Centre.

The city council has awarded the contract to Graham Construction, and work will begin on the 3.8 million project after the summer. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2011.

The existing 45-year old community centre on Pilton Drive North will be replaced with a building including sports facilities and community rooms.

The existing function hall, cafe, computer suite and meeting rooms are expected to remain open during building, and the Granton Children's Centre will also continue to operate. The current building will be knocked down.

City education leader Councillor Marilyne MacLaren said: "It is great news that this work is due to start soon and I am pleased that our plans are finally coming to fruition."
