Communities given £6500 boost for the environment

COMMUNITY projects aimed at improving the Edinburgh environment have received a £6500 funding boost.

The Central Scotland Green Network, which has been set up by the Scottish Government, has handed out the cash within the last six months.

The funding has gone towards developing a sensory garden at Hillside Crescent Gardens, improving Balerno Park, increasing year-round biodiversity at Drylaw and work on paths and native tree planting to the south of Corstorphine.

The fund, which is in its first year, has been backed by the Forestry Commission Scotland.

Keith Geddes, chairman of the Scotland Green Network Partnership Board, said: “The funding is a fantastic opportunity to support community groups. It’s great that we are beginning to see the results of their hard work.

“We are committed to improving the quality of life of people and their communities.”
