Club facing boycott over event's name

A NIGHTCLUB has come under fire for plans to run a new club night called "Bitch Slap".

West End venue The Lane has been criticised by the council's licensing leader, student groups and domestic violence campaigners, who say the title normalises violence against women.

An online campaign has been launched calling on the club to change the name or face a boycott.

A Scottish Women's Aid spokeswoman said: "Violence against women is never funny or clever and it's disappointing that the venue has chosen to glamorise it in this way."

Promoter Robbie Walker said: "We were just looking for an in-your-face name and found it in a magazine. The comments that have been made are over the top."
