Clipper takes a rain check

The city’s entry in this year’s Clipper Round the World yacht race has been removed from the water for maintenance during a stopover on Australia’s Gold Coast.

All ten yachts in the Clipper fleet have been lifted for rudder and keel inspections. The crew will also repaint the hull of Edinburgh Inspiring Capital with anti-foul paint.

David Whyte, general manager of The Boat Works, said: “We’re water-blasting these boats and we run a full recycling system here. We’ve got half a million litres of rainwater so these boats are actually being blasted with rainwater.”
