Clan event rescue 'gaffe'

COUNCIL leader Jenny Dawe has admitted that the city council jumped the gun when it unveiled a rescue package for last summer's Homecoming clan gathering after it failed to sell large numbers of tickets.

Cllr Dawe has found herself at loggerheads with events champion and deputy council leader Steve Cardownie after questioning the deal to salvage The Gathering after it racked up a 600,000 loss.

She reportedly said that the announcement issued in Cllr Cardownie's name in October that the council would take over the company that created the event, with its new marketing body taking on private sector debts run up by organisers, had been "premature" and "misleading".
