City teenager dies in party knife horror

A murder inquiry has been launched and two men, aged 28 and 21, who were also at the party, have been arrested. They were being questioned by detectives this morning.

Shocked party goers contacted the police after the incident and officers arrived to find the youngster lying outside in the street.

He was rushed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in an ambulance, but was pronounced dead at 4.30am. It is understood the teenager was a guest at the party, which was

coming to an end when the fight broke out. A handful of other revellers were also being spoken to by the police today.

This morning, police had cordoned off a row of semi-detached houses on Hay Gardens. A tarpaulin had been placed on the ground outside one of the homes.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "We heard sirens last night but didn't know what it was all about. It was only this morning when we saw the road had been shut off that we knew it must be something bad.

"I don't know those neighbours but it is a terrible thing to happen. I'm shocked by it."

Another added: "The kids have parties occasionally and they do make a lot of noise but this is the first time I've heard of anything like this happening. It must be terrible for his family."

A force spokeswoman said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Hay Gardens in the early hours of this morning and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

"An incident room has been set up at Craigmillar police station."

Police said the dead teenager will not be named until all family members have been informed.

It is unclear how many times the youngster was stabbed.
