City students win top prize with essays

TWO students from Edinburgh University have been named as winners in the 2012 Undergraduate Awards – an international academic awards programme that identifies top students across the globe.

Lewis Hou won in the Medical Sciences category for his essay entitled The Slyvian Fissures: Asymmetry, Morphology and Psychosis, while fellow student Francesca Zaffora Blando scooped first place in the Philosophical Studies and Theology category for her essay Does Deduction really rest on a more secure epistemological footing than Induction?

The pair will receive their awards from Irish president and patron of the awards programme Michael D Higgins at the UA Summit in Dublin on November 7.

Panels of international academics assessed the 2890 coursework entries that were received from students across Ireland, the United States, the UK and Canada.
